Forest campsites and accommodation venues are now available to book online 365 days in advance!

Booking can now be made 12 months ahead, with dates opening up incrementally as each days passes.

Please note that the length of our annual camping season will remain unchanged (1 April to 30 November annually), but we know most of you will appreciate the chance to book ahead!

For those keen to use a camp spot or accommodation venue for an event, applications will also be accepted via the website for 2024.

About our campgrounds

ForestrySA manages three designated campgrounds in the Mount Lofty Ranges – Kuitpo Forest’s Chookarloo and Mount Crawford’s Chalk’s and Rocky Paddock Campgrounds.

Forest visitors wishing to use a campsite for day visits will also be required to book and pay for their site online prior to arrival.

Use of fire pits within picnic areas will remain free of charge and available on a first-in, first-served basis.

Camping is permitted from 1 April to 30 November annually.

Fees apply for camping. Please make your booking online.

Wood fires are permitted from 1 May – 31 October annually. (These dates may change in seasons where high fire danger persists).

Planning an event or group activity at one of our sites?

A wide variety of community and private events are held at our Mount Lofty Ranges and Green Triangle recreation sites each year.

If you are planning a group activity such as orienteering, a school or Scout camp, group walk or bike ride, you must submit an event application and map of planned forest routes.

All applications must be submitted at least four weeks prior to the proposed event or activity and will be reviewed by a Forest Ranger for approval on a case-by-case basis.

Commercial operators and mobile vendors

If you are providing goods or services for payment within our campgrounds, you must have a commercial operators licence or mobile vendor permit.

The forest is closed to the public on declared Total Fire Ban days. To report a fire, call 000.

The Kuitpo and Mount Crawford Forests are located within the Mount Lofty Ranges Fire Ban District. For fire ban information phone 1800 362 361 or visit the CFS websiteBeing aware of a Total Fire Ban is your responsibility.

Fire is prohibited on ForestrySA land between November 1 and April 30 in any year. (These dates may be extended in areas where high fire danger persists).

Frequently asked questions

HOW DO I BOOK  CAMPSITE?
Campsite bookings must be made on our website. See above  via the links above. We suggest using a computer (desktop or laptop) or a tablet, this enables you to see the campsites. Once booked, you will receive a booking confirmation number. Keep this for reference.

REFUNDS AND CANCELLATIONS
To make a cancellation please email us or phone 8391 8800 during business hours Monday to Friday. Cancellations must be reported in writing to ForestrySA a minimum of 7 days prior to check-in to be refunded. No refunds will be provided for cancellations made less than 7 days before check-in.

CAN I HAVE A CAMPFIRE?
Wood fires are permitted from 1 May to 31 October. Gas fires are permitted from 1 April to 30 November. Campfires are permitted only in the designated fire pits within the campsites and picnic grounds. A responsible person must remain in attendance and ensure the fire is fully extinguished before departure.

CAN I COLLECT FIREWOOD?
It is recommended you bring your own firewood. Visitors may collect wood for campfires from the plantation forest floor only, near their campsites and picnic areas. It is an offence to cut standing timber.

CAN I BRING MY DOG?
Dogs are welcome in our forests however restrictions apply in certain areas. Dogs-on-lead zones apply in busy areas such as campgrounds, picnic areas, and trails. Click here for more information.

CAN I HAVE A PARTY?
In the interest of quiet enjoyment and with respect for all forest users, ForestrySA has a zero tolerance party policy which applies when visiting our campgrounds. All guests must be respectful of others at all times and remain quiet between 10pm and 7am.
