ForestrySA is strongly committed to the economic, environmental and social aspects of sustainable forest practice as set out in its Policy for Sustainable Forest Management.

Australian Forestry Standard (AFS) certification


ForestrySA manages plantation land and Native Forest Resrves in the Mount Lofty Ranges and mid North of South Australia for the South Australian Government.

ForestrySA has an integrated Forest Management System that covers all processes involved in the management and protection of plantations, native forests and other land use activities. It also covers the delivery of forest products by ForestrySA and OneFortyOne Plantations Pty Ltd customers.

The Forest Management System complies with the Australian Forestry Standard (AS 4708-2013), which requires ForestrySA to meet internationally accepted criteria for sustainable forest management.

ForestrySA's Mount Lofty Ranges region is certified to the Australian Forestry Standard (AFS). The Mid North Forest is no longer AFS certified, but continues to be managed in accordance with ForestrySA’s Forest Management System.

Defined Forest Area

The Defined Forest Area that ForestrySA manages for the South Australian Government in the Mount Lofty Ranges Region of South Australia comprises 15,250 hectares of declared Forest Reserve and 4,203 hectares of declared Native Forest Reserve under the Forestry Act 1950 (SA).

Included is 1,089 hectares of land that is subject to a Memorandum of Understanding with SA Water dated 28 September 2009 that enables ForestrySA to manage Reservoir Reserves in the Mount Lofty Ranges for commercial timber production.

The total Defined Forest Area is 20,540 hectares. The attached map provides further detail of the extent and location of the Defined Forest Area.
