Temporary forest closures

Our pine forests are working, commercial forests and certain areas may be closed or restricted at times for operations such as planting, harvesting, firebreak maintenance and prescribed burning.

Forest operations sites can be dangerous places, involving heavy vehicles and machinery, falling trees and loud noise. In the interest of public safety, visitor access is temporarily prohibited.

For your own safety please keep out, follow all site signage and obey instructions from staff.

Trail closures and re-routes

Our walking and shared-use trails are re-routed or closed from time-to-time, due to broader forest closures.

Please be aware the following trails are currently affected:

  • Bone Gully (Kangas) – Entire precinct closed from January 2024 due to harvest operations. Click here for details.
  • Old Kersbrook Loop and Devils Gully Link multi-use trails – Closed due to harvest operations. An alternative trail route is now in place.
  • Heysen Trail: Re-route in place at McIntyres and Jupiter’s Creek plantations, following Razorback Road and Pocock Road.

Trail users need to always adhere to directional and closure signage. For questions or concerns, please contact us.

 

Forests closed at night

Our forests are closed each night between dusk and dawn.

Overnight stays are only provided to visitors with a valid camping permit or accommodation booking. Activities requiring night access require Ranger approval using an Event Application.

Total Fire Ban

To reduce fire risk and ensure public safety, our forests are closed to all visitors on days of Total Fire Ban.

Fire danger ratings and bans are declared by the Country Fire Service (CFS) after 4pm on the day before the rating is to take effect, and published on their website.

Fire Ban Districts

Our forests are located in two CFS Fire Ban Districts:

Mount Crawford, Kuitpo and Second Valley Forests (Mount Lofty Ranges):
Mount Lofty Ranges Fire Ban District

Green Triangle Forests (Limestone Coast):
Lower South East Fire Ban District

 

The forest is closed to the public on declared Total Fire Ban days. To report a fire, call 000.

Fire is prohibited on ForestrySA land between November 1 and April 30 in any year. (These dates may be extended in areas where high fire danger persists).
