Events and group activities

Organising an event or group activity?

Our event season runs from 1 April – 30 November annually.

Many events are hosted in our forests each year. these includes festivals, rogaining and orienteering competitions, horse endurance races, mountain bike races, sled dog races, commercial filming and photography, trail running events, military training, scout jamborees, outdoor education courses, school camps… and so much more!

Events such as these require organisers to submit an Event Application or Group Activity Registration for approval by our Ranger team.

  • Event Application – requires formal application and payment of Event Fees
  • Group Activity Registration – simply lets our team know your group is visiting the forest

By registering your event or activity with us, we can make sure your visit is a safe and enjoyable one. Plus, our Rangers can give you tips on the best spots to visit and double check your plans will not be impacted by harvesting operations or other forest events.

Ensure you have all information ready before starting your Event Application, including a location map and proof of public liability insurance. All Event Applications require payment of a $11.30 assessment fee, which must be paid before your application can be submitted.

We have a range of camping and accommodation facilities in the Mount Lofty Ranges. Some are suitable for events and others are not. Event-suitable sites include YHA Camp Ponderosa Hut and Cromer Hut in Mount Crawford Forest, and Tinjella Hut in Kuitpo Forest.

“Must knows” for event organisers

  • Event Applications will NOT be accepted within 4 weeks prior to the event.
  • Event Applications for large or complex events (e.g. 150 participants or more, motorsports, commercial filming, or festivals) will NOT be accepted within 8 weeks prior to the event.
  • Event advertising and promotion must not occur before approval has been provided by ForestrySA.
  • Applications for events between 1 December and 31 March are generally not accepted due to the fire danger season. Only bike-related events at Fox Creek Bike Park will be considered during this time.
  • Read our full Terms and Conditions.

Fees apply to events and some forest activities. Our recreational fees allow us the opportunity to recoup some administration, on-ground support and maintenance costs, and continue to provide well-maintained visitor facilities.

We review our recreational fees on 1 July each year. Click here to view our fee structure.
