Events and group activities

Organising an event or group activity?

Our event season runs from 1 April – 30 November annually.

Many events are hosted in our forests each year including festivals, rogaining and orienteering competitions, horse endurance races, mountain bike races, sled dog races, commercial filming and photography, trail running events, military training, scout jamborees, outdoor education courses, school camps, and so much more.

Events such as these require organisers to submit an Event Application or activity registration form for approval by our Ranger team.

By registering your event or activity with us, we can make sure your visit is a safe and enjoyable one. Plus, our Rangers can give you tips on the best spots to visit and double check your plans will not be impacted by harvesting operations or other forest events.

Please note: Applications are generally not accepted between 1 December and 31 March due to the fire season. Only bike-related events at Fox Creek Bike Park will be considered during this time.

Extra information for event organisers

Examples of events include mountain bike races, horse endurance events, orienteering, trail running and rogaining competitions, and weddings and large group gatherings.

Event Applications must be received no later than 4 weeks prior to the event.

Ensure you have all information ready before starting your Event Application, including a location map and proof of public liability insurance. All applications require payment of a $10.50 assessment fee, which must be paid before your application can be submitted.

We have a range of camping and accommodation facilities in the Mount Lofty Ranges. Some are suitable for events and others are not. Event-suitable sites include YHA Camp Ponderosa Hut and Cromer Hut in Mount Crawford Forest, and Tinjella Hut in Kuitpo Forest.

Lodge a COVID Management Plan for events over 1,000 people

Organisers of events involving more than 1,000 people must lodge a COVID Management Plan direct with SA Health.

SA Health approval is required before the event can take place.

Regional Events Fund grants available

Are you planning an event in our Mount Lofty Ranges or Limestone Coast forests during 2021-22?

You may be eligible for grant funding, as part of a new SA Government initiative to support regional events, visitation and spending.

The Regional Event Fund is offering grants from $5,000 – $50,000, to strengthen the state’s regional events calendar and drive economic stimulus beyond the traditionally peak summer tourism period.
